McNair Invitational
January 16
We’ve had a busy start to 2024 beginning with The Robert and Janice McNair Invitational! Please see this video made by Jim Bowdon about the tournament and fundraising. Our benefactors helped raise to date over 3.5 million dollars for scholarship students!
This video is about what the members of The Golf Club at Briar's Creek do for the students at Charleston Collegiate School. The members contribute thousands of dollars so 29 students at Charleston Collegiate have scholarships to attend the private school on Johns Island, SC. In this video, we hear from students, school administrators, club members and club management about this very successful and beneficial program.
Home & Away, February 7 & 15
Following the McNair Invitational, we welcomed Daniel and Seabrook Island to our Home and Away.
Thank you to the members that participated and hosted these neighboring clubs!
Mother Nature interfered with both the Member Professional event and Guys and Gals, but while working with the conditions that were given, we had two successful events. While the Member-Professional was small to start, we hope to build on this event moving forward. Professional guests came from all over- New Jersey, Vermont and even locally within our Low Country area.

Course Update
Kyle Bibler
CGCS, Golf Course Superintendent
It’s starting to look like spring at Briar’s! If you have been out over the past couple of weeks, you will see that things are really starting to green up. With a ton of pollen and rain over the last week things are kind of messy, but we’re looking forward to a great spring season. The greens have slowed a bit with all of the sunshine and we’re trying to keep them as fast as we possibly can. We will go out next week with an aggressive fertilizer application, so as the Bermuda comes out of dormancy it should really pop.
We have completed the new back range tee this week. We have decided to call it the Practice Tee for all of you that just like to hit balls and the big range tee we’ll call the Warm up Tee. The whole point of this new tee is to keep the big tee from getting so chewed up. We’ve created a very welcoming spot at the back of the range with a great view of the lagoon and opened it up for a great breeze to blow through.
I know those of you that just want a quiet place to work on your swing will love it. After the sod has had time to knit in, our plan is to open that tee after aerification this summer.
The only controversial item this month has been the addition of some new signage on the course. These were put on a few of the worst holes that we constantly see unrepaired ball marks. Some of you have told me you loved them and some… well, not so much. The point of the signage is that we want to keep the course in the best shape possible. The Team works hard to deliver that for you and all we ask is that you and your guests fill divots, repair ball marks and when it’s a “carts on path” day, please keep four wheels on the concrete. We’ll do the rest, and we appreciate your help. Looking forward to seeing you on the course.
Projects & Progress
Shaping of the New Practice Tee
The new back range tee (12,000 sq. feet) is sodded and will just sit and grow-in until the grand opening in the fall. It is designed for members who like to hit balls for an extended period of time in a private, peaceful setting. Kyle will re-orient the greens closest to the new range tee this summer. Our current range tee will be described as the warm-up tee and the back range tee will be the practice tee.

CCM, CCE, General Manager
Dear Members,
It’s that time of year! Our season always starts with the Ladies College of Charleston Invitational. We had a group of 17 teams from around the country this year and it’s always such a special event. As always, we had a small challenge with weather starting
Saturday when we had to close the course with 5.5 inches of rain on and already wet course, (8.5 inches since March 1). Thank you to all of you that participated as sponsors for the ladies.
We have a new addition to the Briars Creek Team. Mikaela Greenburg is joining us as our new Clubhouse Manager. Mikaela has spent her career around food and beverage and most recently has worked for Grassroots Wines and the last four years was the General Manager at the I’On Club. Please make her feel like a part of our family as she gets to know the staff and all of you in the coming months.
Welcome
Mikaela Greenberg
We are breaking ground on the restrooms on the front nine after months and months of back and forth with the county. Please be patient with us as you play through the area behind 3 green while the contractors get this up and running. We are also planning to build a shelter on the back of the existing restrooms that will be lightning protected in case you get caught out there during a storm. Some new enhancements to the clubhouse are also on our schedule in 2024. All in we are adding almost a million dollars in capital improvements to the club this year.
I am looking forward to seeing you all this spring! As always, if you ever need anything, please don’t hesitate to reach out
All my best,
Clint W.
